REAL CO*RE Pain Management and Opioids: Balancing Risks and Benefits

This activity is intended for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals who are involved in the management of patients with pain. The goal of this activity is to improve the safe prescribing and management of patients with pain.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Have increased knowledge in their ability to
    • Identify the risks and benefits of opioid therapy
    • Apply pain pathophysiology to pain management
    • Accurately assess patients with pain
    • Develop a safe and effective pain treatment plan
    • Identify evidence-based non-opioid options for the treatment of pain
    • Manage ongoing opioid therapy
    • Recognize behaviors that may be associated with opioid use disorder
